Cardeto

The wine-growing and wine-producing cooperative for the area of Orvieto (CO.VI.O) was founded in 1949 and it was located in Orvieto Scalo. The construction of the new wine cooperative in Cardeto started in 1990 and ended in 2004 with the construction of the temperature-controlled warehouse for bottles and barrels. In 2005 its name changed into "Cantina Cardeto".

Currently, the Cardeto cooperative processes the grapes of about 350 partners who grow more than 800 hectares of grape varieties, 160 of which are constituted of red grape varieties (Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet, Pinot, etc.) while the rest is constituted of white grape varieties mostly destined to the production of the Orvieto Classico.
