Our Wine Lines

Cardèto Vintage

A new line created to celebrate 70 years of production  that brings all the meaning of the Latin word vindenia, vintage, which in English reminds us of the original labels of retro style belonging to our history production, which in French language reminds us of fine wines. After a restyling, which brings to light the imprints of ancient medieval symbols, the Cardeto wines of the Vintage line, two reds wines, Nero della Greca and Arciato and two whites wines, Febeo and Colbadia, rediscover their “true soul” and return to live in all their intensity.

Cardèto “Città”

It is the corporate image that represent an historic print of orvieto in 1500.
A wonderful image of unique city on a tufaceous cliff, presented with 4 bottles (as 4 neighbourhood), each bottle is a piece of orvieto and tells a story on back label.

Germano Reale

“Germano Reale” is a Duck, migratory bird typical of our territory that lives in freshwater wetlands such as: marshes, ponds, lakes and rivers. Since this bird does  every year the migration,   it symbolizes the difficult spiritual research and the cycle of rebirths.  In some old cultures this animal is also a symbol of immortality. Since the male is always with the female duck in the migrations, the is the belief that meeting  a pair of ducks is a symbol of good omen for the unity and loyalty of a married couple.

Pierleone

The name of this line was inspired by two important  figures. “Il Pierleone”, a soldier of fortune lived during the Middle Ages, well known for his courage and fearlessness. An important  Umbrian noble, Pierleone Leoni. He lived from 1440 to 1492 and was an important Italian doctor, philosopher and astrologer.
He was one of the most talented men of science existed at that time and became the personal  doctor of Lorenzo de Medici.

Rupestro

The great poet Gabriele D’Annunzio is linked to Orvieto for having praised, on several occasions, the quality of the local wines. His literary history intertwines with that of Cardeto for an interesting reason. On October 13th, 1903, Gabriele D’Annunzio wrote “Alcyone”, and in one lyrical passage, he invented the word “rupestro”. A new adjective that best expressed the sensation of peering from the top – something known to every inhabitant of Orvieto – and which Cardeto has used to name one of its most important wines: Rupestro Orvieto Classico.

Rupestro

“Matile” comes from the type of soil of the vineyards from which we produce the wines of Matile Range, even if some people think that comes from Estruscan “Papile” that means something able to light. In fact this kind of soil contains volcanic materials that shines at the sunshine. It is a yellowish soil, very hard but friable after the breaking up, rich of potassium. From vineyards planted in this soils, we get white wines fresh, with remarkable acidity and a distinctive minerals and fruit aromas. The matile rosè and red offer fruity aromas and flavors, with a persistent mineral underlay.

NOT ONLY WINE, FROM THIS LAND

CARDETO Extra Virgin Olive Oil is produced with olives of our cooperative grovers. Olive groves are subjected to strictly controlled and non-chemical treatments and the plants are typical Umbrian “cultivars”  (Frantoio, Leccino, Moraiolo, Pendolino, Raia).

The hills in the Orvieto territory are very favorable both for the excellent exposure and for the characteristics of the soils that bring the fruits to the right maturation and an acidity rate of around 0.01%. The autumn temperatures are medium-low, favour the metabolism giving to the final oil valueble organoleptic characteristics and high content in oleic acid.

In autumn the olives are harvested manually, transported to the local mill and milled promptly in the mill with a “two-step integral continuous cycle” system allowing to respect the fruit of the earth. The oil thus produced is naturally decanted and stored in stainless steel containers.

The quality of the oil is at high level with particular finesse: the visual appearance is excellent, just produced it has a green color between the emerald and the chlorophyll and then acquires bright yellow-golden reflections; the aroma is intense; the taste is exquisite with a fruity flavor very evident reminiscent of the healthy, fresh and harvested fruit at the optimal point of ripening.
